FINDING SHOWS TO SEE
If this is your first time coming to the Holl2ywood Fringe Festival: Welcome! With over a thousand performances of hundreds of shows throughout a one month period, it can be difficult to determine what to see. Have no fear-- consider this a theater adventure!
On our site, you can search for shows in a lot of different ways at hollywoodfringe.org/shows. You can search by tag, category, venue or date. You can also pop into our in-person Fringe Central where you can talk to other participants about their show recommendations. You can also download the Fringe app which can come in really handy when you're trying to find shows to see. Want just a taste of what’s out there? There are usually at least one or two shows dedicated solely to helping audience members discover shows like the Fringe Cabarets.
Navigating the Hollywood Fringe Festival can definitely be a thrilling experience! Here are some additional tips to help you make the most of your time:
- Plan Ahead: While spontaneity is part of the fun, having a rough plan can help you maximize your experience. Just make sure your must-see shows aren’t scheduled at the same time as your impromptu “let’s see where the night takes us” moments. Because, you know, life’s all about finding that perfect balance between “I’ve got a plan” and “Oops, I didn’t see that coming.” Have fun with your well-organized spontaneity!
- Prioritize Logistics: Consider the location and timing of the shows you want to see. Venues might be close together, but sometimes they’re not. Don’t forget to always factor in travel time between locations and be mindful of show start times.
- Check Reviews and Ratings: If you’re unsure about a show, look at reviews or ratings from other festival-goers. This can provide insight into what you might expect and help you choose shows that align with your interests.
- Explore Different Genres: The Fringe is a great opportunity to experience a variety of performances, from comedy and drama to experimental works. Be open to exploring genres you might not usually gravitate toward.
- Engage with the Community: The festival is not just about watching performances; it’s also a chance to interact with artists and fellow theater enthusiasts. Attend post-show discussions, mingle at Fringe Central, and participate in workshops if available.
- Take Breaks: The festival can be intense with back-to-back shows and events. Don’t forget to take breaks to rest, hydrate, and refuel. This will keep you energized and ready for more performances. If you looking for a great spot to rest, recharge, and/or refuel check out this year’s Hotspots!
- Stay Updated: Use the Fringe app to keep track of any schedule changes, last-minute shows, or special events. It’s a handy tool to help you stay on top of the festival’s dynamic schedule.
