PRE-SHOW SPEECH REQUIREMENTS FOR HFF26 PRODUCTIONS
Hollywood Fringe requires that all shows have a land acknowledgment at the top of their show. You can use your own language or ours (below), and some venues may have recordings they prefer you use for a cohesive pre-show speech.
**Venues have the same info you do, so if your venue has a standard pre-show speech, you are good to go!
The Hollywood Fringe Land Acknowledgment
Hollywood Fringe OR Your Show Name OR Your Venue Name
acknowledges that we are on the unceded lands of the Gabrielino/Tongva and Chumash peoples. Our statement serves as a practice, as we commit to furthering our connection to the Indigenous communities past, present, and emerging.
Additionally, Hollywood Fringe has provided two options you may use at the top of your show.
If your show has a quiet beginning, and you would prefer for your land acknowledgment to be shown on a screen before the performance, that’s fine! But, you must set that up with your venue during your tech (and make sure it is within your technical abilities).
OTHER RECOMMENDED LANGUAGE
(if you don't use the recordings provided by us or your venue)
In Hollywood Fringe’s land acknowledgment, we followed up with more information about the festival, including the following:
- Visit Fringe HQ Wednesday - Sunday at 4304 Melrose Avenue to connect with the community and get help navigating the program at the Fringe Box Office
- To learn more about Fringe or buy tickets, go to HollywoodFringe.org - and after the show, don’t forget to leave a review!
DOING A POST-SHOW INSTEAD OF A PRE-SHOW SPEECH?
We recommend you deliver your land acknowledgment at the top of the show to set the tone as you move into your performance. We have pre-recorded some post-show marketing tidbits you can add on to the end of your show if you’d like.
Post-Show Recording Option
FOLDER WITH ALL AVAILABLE SCRIPS AND RECORDINGS
If you have any issues or questions with the above, please contact support@hollywoodfringe.org, and we will gladly discuss any specific issues and allow for alterations when appropriate on a show-by-show basis.
WHY WE DO THIS
Land Acknowledgment:
We start every show with a land acknowledgment to honor the original stewards of the land and take a step toward more actionable reconciliation. Our statement was created in concert with our Access Advisory Board, and we are committed, along with many other arts organizations in LA County, in putting our acknowledgment into practice at all events, festival-wide.
Festival Details:
It’s all about that shared audience. Remember, you are part of something bigger than your individual show. By sharing the festival at large, you are sharing audience with each other. We are stronger and more successful together.
